Checkpoint Charly is a beautiful Asian-Western restaurant bar overlooking the pool of the nostalgic Avia Hotel, with a name that piques the curiosity of many.
So what's the connection between the restaurant and its name?
Checkpoint Charlie is the name of the most well-known Berlin Wall crossing point, between East and West Germany. After the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989 it became a highly popular tourist attraction. The owners of Checkpoint Charly met at Berlin and decided to use this name as an allusion to the fusion between eastern and western cuisines.
Some of our clients thought that Charly is a British word for cocaine or that we were referring to Charlie Biton from the Israeli Black Panthers or that this is how the Americans referred to the Vietnamese in the Vietnam War, etc.
Vitaly, Charly's gifted chef, learned to cook in Italy and he's but one of the reasons why the food at Charly tastes so great.
We at Checkpoint Charly can guarantee that once you check in you'll never want to leave!
